FAQScoring

How does JLPT scoring work?

빠른 답변

JLPT uses scaled scoring out of 180 points. You need both an overall passing score AND minimum scores in each section. Raw scores are adjusted for question difficulty.

JLPT scoring is more complex than simple percentage calculations. Here's how it works:

Basic Scoring Structure

- Maximum score: 180 points - Sections: Language Knowledge, Reading, Listening - Each section scored out of 60 points - Passing requires BOTH overall score AND section minimums

Scaled Scoring Explained

- Raw scores are NOT your final scores - Scores adjusted based on question difficulty - Called "Item Response Theory" (IRT) - Ensures fair comparison across test dates - Harder questions = more points per correct answer

Passing Requirements by Level

| Level | Overall | Vocab/Grammar | Reading | Listening | |-------|---------|---------------|---------|-----------| | N5 | 80/180 | 38/120* | - | 19/60 | | N4 | 90/180 | 38/120* | - | 19/60 | | N3 | 95/180 | 19/60 | 19/60 | 19/60 | | N2 | 90/180 | 19/60 | 19/60 | 19/60 | | N1 | 100/180 | 19/60 | 19/60 | 19/60 |

*N4/N5 combine Language Knowledge and Reading into one section

Why Scaled Scoring Matters

1. Can't calculate score from raw answers 2. Missing a hard question hurts less 3. Getting an easy question wrong hurts more 4. Consistent standards across test dates 5. Your actual knowledge is measured, not luck

Common Scoring Scenarios

**Scenario 1: Pass Overall, Fail Section** - Score: 100/180 overall - Listening: 15/60 (below 19 minimum) - Result: FAIL (didn't meet section minimum)

**Scenario 2: Meet Sections, Fail Overall** - All sections: 25/60 each = 75/180 - All minimums met - Result: FAIL (below 90 for N4)

Score Report Details

- Overall score (0-180) - Section scores (0-60 each) - Reference information letter grade (A/B/C) - Comparative data showing performance level

How to Maximize Your Score

1. Balance study across ALL sections 2. Don't neglect any single area 3. Listening is often the weakest - practice extra 4. Review section minimums, not just overall score 5. Practice under timed conditions

Understanding Score References

- A: High performance (67%+ estimated) - B: Moderate performance (34-66% estimated) - C: Low performance (below 34% estimated)

These help identify which areas need improvement for future tests.

핵심 요약
