Most learners need 150-300 hours of study over 3-6 months to pass JLPT N5.
Take N5 if you need motivation milestones or are a beginner; skip to N4 if you have 6+ months of study.
N5: 80/180, N4: 90/180, N3: 95/180, N2: 90/180, N1: 100/180. Each section also has minimum score requirements.
JLPT is the official, globally recognized test offered twice yearly. NAT-TEST is an unofficial alternative offered 6 times yearly with similar format but less recognition.
JLPT N2 requires knowledge of approximately 1,000 kanji, including all kanji from N5-N3 levels.
Choose Genki for self-study with English support. Choose Minna no Nihongo for classroom learning or immersive Japanese-only approach.
Start with N5 foundations, progress through N4, N3, N2, and finally N1. You can skip levels based on existing knowledge.
JLPT is offered in July and December. Registration opens 3-4 months before (March/April for July, August/September for December).
Yes, you can skip JLPT levels. The test is independent at each level, and skipping is common for experienced learners.
